CEO in Residence

CEO Job Description
CEO job involves an initial acquisition search phase in which the executive will work with the company to develop a business plan and identify and evaluate acquisition opportunities in a targeted industry, conduct necessary due diligence on the acquisition target, and then following the closing of an acquisition, assume the CEO position and associated responsibilities for the acquired company. 

Company Description
The company is a Chicago-based private equity firm focused on investing in management buyouts of business-business services, consumer services, and consumer products companies.  The company's unique CEO in Residence involves partnering with a proven business services CEO first, and then working with a CEO to acquire a company.  In the past the company has partnered with private equity groups such as Great Hill Partners in Boston, and Frontenac Company in Chicago on management buyouts of companies with enterprise values as high as $100 million.  The company makes equity investments of up to $2 million to acquire companies, and brings in larger private equity firms to partner with on acquisitions up to $1 billon in enterprise value. 

 

The company looks to invest in companies with recurring revenue, high margin business models that can be built into leaders in their industries.    The company's investment strategy is to invest in transactions where: (i) a private company is under-managed or “under the radar”, (ii) new management is able to improve the operational performance and implement a successful growth plan, and (iii) after a company has achieved critical mass and demonstrated strong growth and margins, a company is attractive to a number of large corporate buyers and larger private equity groups.  

 
Position Requirements

  • Previous experience as CEO or general manager of a company, with full P&L responsibility and all functions reporting to them.

  • A proven track record of successfully building, as CEO, a company to $50 million or more in sales, with operating margins in excess of 15%.

  • An entrepreneurial mindset, with ideas on specific acquisition candidates or a specific sector to target acquisitions in.

  • Acquisition experience.

  • A high margin, recurring revenue business model that allows a company to create a sustainable competitive advantage and to become a leader in its industry.

  • The ability to build a complete and strong management team.

  • A partnership mentality, with a high level of integrity and excellent interpersonal skills.
